Today I not talking to you about training horses, but want to tell you about my new short story Mountains, Desert & Forts – Crossing Rajasthan on Horseback which has been published in the Equestrian Adventuresses Book Series Horse Nomads. Horse Nomads is already book number five of the series and it includes a couple of great stories from Mongolia, France, Lesotho, Greece and my Indian story. I have already published another story of mine in the second book of the series Going the Distance. This was the second book of the series and my story The Quest for Panch Kaliyan which is the story of how I found my first Marwari horse in India.
As I work for the Equestrian Adventuresses Podcast, I have been involved with the editing of the stories from book number two onwards and I am quite proud to be part of this series.
The Equestrian Adventuresses Book Series comprise of five books of true to life stories written by women from all around the world about their adventures with horses. Most of these stories are about challenges we all face and how to overcome them. Each stories provides a unique perspective. There is one written by a woman travelling through Patagonia on horseback with her two small children, another one is about a vet volunteering in Namibia, treating horses and wild animals. One story is about an expat living in Italy who buys a horse and starts a show jumping career in a country which she feels strange and foreign in, while yet another story is about an Australian girl working in Chile who struggles with learning the language.
Each story is about a women who dared and choose her own path in life, often against her family, swimming upstream rather than going the easy way. Some stories are about that one special horse, others are about how to bounce back after a serious accident or injury. I enjoyed reading them all and I am happy that I was able to contribute two stories of my own.
My story Mountains, Desert & Forts: Crossing Rajasthan on Horseback is about one of our horseback safari and all the things which can go wrong while riding with a group of people through the heart of Rajasthan. And of course it is about our wonderful Marwari horses, which play the main role in the story.
You will meet Dhanraj our piebald gelding, who recovered well from his old injury and passed the test with flying colours! My beloved mare Ashtami who has given us two beautiful daughters and will be always queen of my heart. I could not tell you, how many kilometres we have ridden together, it must be several thousands by now. Pretty Radha is there as well as Anokhi, Chandni, Kirti and all the others. Sultana and Madhvi for whom it was the first safari of her career and who did so well. They all play a role and are the main characters of the story.
So if you want to know a bit more about myself, feel free to buy either of the books Going the Distance or Horse Nomads and read about my life with horses in India. You can just click on the links or find the books on Amazon.
